BYD Auto

BYD Auto
BYD Auto is one of China's largest and best-known car brands. BYD stands for "Build Your Dreams". It may be cheesy, but it probably works in a nation with such growing wealth and dreams.

BYD has vowed to be the first Chinese car brand to enter the US market - slated for the end of 2010.

BYD unveiled its e6, a four-door electric car, at the Detroit Auto Show. The e6 is supposed to be able to go 330 kilometers between charges, or 205 miles.

This approach may be a good strategy considering the excellent prospects for environmentally-friendly and alternative fuel cars in the US.

BYD was founded in 1995 and is a Hong Kong-listed firm. In September of 2008, Warren Buffet bought a 10% stake of the firm for a sum of US $230 million. Obviously BYD is doing something right, even if their cars look like knock-off Mercedes.

You be the judge: Copy or coincidence?
